Dubai 7s – Everything about the big party!

In the following 48 hours, at the coast of the United Arabic Emirates, roughly 2600 players will celebrate a huge 7s party in sunny 22o degrees. In other words it is the weekend of the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens – now in its 44th year. Since 1987 the tournaments head sponsor are the Emirates Airlines, which lends the competition its name. The tournament is unique in its structure as Dubai is the only event where an HSBC Sevens World Series event and an IRB Women’s World Series tournament run side by side.

Another exciting fact about the second tournament of the HSBC Sevens World Series is that beside 16 world class international male teams and 12 international female teams, there are open competitions for amateur teams as well. 13 different invitational tournaments ranging from elite teams to U18 boys sides will host 200 teams.

In terms of the HSBC Sevens World Series competition, Samoa will try hard to defend their title, beating New Zealand in the 2012 final. In the women competition, New Zealand once again set the standards after beating South Africa in last year’s final.

With the world’s best sevens players, in one of the world’s best 7s stadium and thousands of 7s fans and players coming together the next two days promise a very special event for any 7s fan.
